No, regenerating health was in "Faceball 2000" which was a sort of primitive FPS from way back in 1992 that had hovering 'happy faces' moving through a maze shooting slow moving projectiles at each other.
The Getaway clearly did not originate it.
Also Halo did not have regenerating health. Halo 2 did. In Halo you picked up health packs to restore health. Your shields did regenerate though.
What you 'Kill Switch did it first' guys forget is:
1.) Kill Switch got very mediocre reviews on PS2, and XBox,
2.) Kill Switch's lead designer was working at Epic Games during the development of Gears of War.
So the idea that Gears of War "stole" the idea from Namco's "popular" series is pretty dumb.
What? Are you kidding?
Crytek just optimized the hell out of their new engine so it could run on consoles in the hopes of expanding their middleware business. And it worked really well.
So did Epic who are practically the center of the current middle-ware business.
Dice is planning to do something with the Frostbite 2 engine on consoles, but no one knows how well it will stack up to the flagship PC version. They says that the player limit wi...
If the WII HD rumors are true then Nintendo is positioning to launc in fall of 2012. MS and Sony might do the same. It's hard to say. I think Sony and MS will wait two more years since the economy sucks and developers are struggling with the costs to develop games for the current systems. Wii HD lets them do the same game at a higher resolution with AA and maybe a higher rendered frame rate without rethinking the actual game content too much.
E3 will tell us a lot about ...
There are $80 and $90 Bluray players now. In a couple of years they should be decent $30 and $40 blu-ray players.
Puzzle Agent was a lot of fun. I got it on steam during the Christmas sale in a puzzle pack. It's kind of a sub standard Layton rip off in terms of the actual puzzles but the cartoon characters and plot are hilarious.
I don't see many games borrowing from MGS's mechanics or subject matter. Certainly not from MGS2.
Cutscenes were popular way before MGS.
Yeah and it wasn't very good and didn't popularize the concept the way that Gears did.
Halo didn't actually have recharging health. Just the energy shield recharged.
Halo 2 added the recharging health. And they explained that as an effect of the Mk6 Mjolnir armor having built in drug injection systems.
Sure enough ODST and Halo Reach (which had spartan II's wearing modified Mk V Mjolnir) didn't have it.
Sadly ODST's "fatigue" system worked way too much like an energy shield implying either that energy...
Yeah, very informative! There were a lot of details in this one. This is not the 'half way to being an opinion piece' drivel we usually get on N4G. Well done!

360 won't be six years old until November. PS3 won't be 5 years old until November.
PS3 sales are lower now than they were last year. This is probably due to the novelty of the PS3 slim wearing off.
360 sales now are greater than they were last year. This probably due to the 360 slim.
Quite a lot of original PS3's got YLOD.
Gears of War 3 comes out in September. Froza 4 is also coming o...
It plays a lot faster and smoother than 2 did.
Yeah and I think I ALSO read the Team Meat guys saying that Kotaku misquoted them and misrepresented what they said by not including a lot of comments that provided context.
