You are right the free games things does run out at the time of XB1 release, so far we have no idea whether MS will renew it for 360, XB1 or both or what the plan is.
It's not a gift lol. The developers give exclusivity for a certain amount of time and Sony market them. I read an article where it explained that this was the case, I think it's all to do with marketing and visiblity.

The problem is more with people who read reviews than the reviews themselves. 10 doesnt have to mean perfect. You don't see a Movie get 5/5 and movie buffs say "What the fuck, what about the plothole where Jimmy should have got a email!" But in games people take 10 to mean flawless.
