Anyone reading this and experiencing perceived stick drift with an external hard drive plugged into the PS4/5 USB port... unplug it during gameplay.
I went through multiple controllers thinking I had terrible stick drift until one reddit user informed me noise that comes off the USB cable itself interferes with the controllers (Bluetooth I believe) signal. Never experienced stick drift again.
