I have to agree with most of what you said. I'm not a big Sony fan so I don't know too much info about MSG. But yeh I have been playing games for over 10 years and as a kid I remember them being great challenges and made your brain actually work and helped you develope a different type of knowledge. The last system I owned of sony's was the PS1 and back then it was good.
I personally have stuck with MS since I got my Xbox 4 years ago and find that XBL has a great community. I can see sometimes where it feels lonely on XBL, during that time I just jump on my computer. But really it isn't that hard to find friends, 12MILLION people to find atleast like 15.
