Slow zombies are scarier in numbers, you know you can outrun them if you have a clear path but there's too many, it makes it more frustrating. Players are more likely to panic when used properly. It's cool because I had a similar idea not too long ago Except I think a more casual free running system would be needed since an average guy doesn't know much about doing a flip of a house and being fine.
An open world zombie game really makes sense, as most survivors are trying to get somewhere safe. Make one with lots of weapons and give us the ability to climb anything and go into any building. God we need this game.
Actually, a lot of these make sense, the only one I wouldn't agree with is MGS4 and that's only because the single player was fun, the MP sucked. as for the other games they are overrated, regardless of how well they did. Sure Uncharted 2 is still fun, and MAG is nice to play with friends, Heavy Rain has an awesome story, but that doesn't change the fact that they were hyped up beyond what they could do by fans. They should add a third person mode. Running, jumping and looking cool are all good for third person. Not that they should take out the first person camera they have now.
You're completely right, the holiday season and the 2-3 months afterwards are overwhelming and good games often get overlooked due to even better ones. Sadly it's easier to release a game near christmas and developers just don't want to release during the summer.
