Indeed it was, it was better game that Resonance and Remnant imo. Square has struggled to make a AAA game of that caliber since. The IP needs to be sold, then again I can say that of any square franchise that isn't Romance Saga, Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest.

After the years of retrospective where most have come to terms with Asura's Wrath not being a great game and realistic graphics being deemed less important than engaging gameplay I don't see the demand for a game like this.

They should have bought Epic and Bungie and let them move on from Gears and Halo. They had history and they basically passed up Fortnite and Destiny.

I'd say since we live in the internet age, fanboys had more to do with sales than ever before. Don't get me wrong the PS4 is a better console but positivity was amplified on Playstation's side and negativity was on the Xbox side. There's no argument there.

Popular is a metric, good is subjective, so you got one thing right they are different things. Personally if we're going to take the gloves off I think Final Fantasy XIV is overpriced garbage with that has the audacity to charge money for garbage expansions on top of its unjust subscription. There are free MMO's that do what it does better. There would be no FFXIV without WoW, and frankly, we all remember the travesty that is A Realm Reborn.
Story and depth are not the same thing.
And global publishing, they round up a third party game every two or so years like Crackdown, Ori, or Recore.
I wouldn't categorize those who don't have a PlayStation as younger. Maybe people have interests in multiplayer and cinematic games aren't their thing? The Last of Us is a mature game but plenty of adults prefer Mario Kart or Halo. Say what you will about the quality of Playstation games but outside of one or two releases they're very uniform, just like how Xbox is very service and co-op centric.
I think the shake ups have not negative context whatsoever. New blood is good.
