I don't understand the /sarc
That is exactly what they want. Draconian DRM requiring constant internet connection and single install with the ability to remotely uninstall/sabotage your copy if you do ANYTHING they perceive to be nefarious with the product.
That is the devs dream world. Don't think it is so? They are simply taking what companies are doing in the business software world today and trying to apply it to the consumer model.
Just because this is a software development company dream world, does not mean it will be true any time soon. I hate to break it to you Peter Moore, but your world is digital and physical media for the foreseeable future. You can keep saying it until you are blue in the face but it does not make the situation a reality.
People are fine with downloading Angry Birds for a buck or Dungeon Defenders for $15 with no media. It is called an impulse buy. You ask that same consumer to...
Assuming you live in the US... look up "First Sale Doctrine". Online passes are just a way to screw the consumer and do an end-around the law.
It is completely beyond me why the software industry seems to think they are exempt from the law in this regard. I can resell my car, my house, or anything else I buy at retail without tithing back to the manufacturer.
Go back to your development sweatshop cave you troll.
Shocking... a dev that GETS IT!
Market share grows when people lend (rent) games to others who want to try it out. If they like it they BUY it!
You cannot lose sales to used and rental markets that were never going to buy it retail in the first place.
Loved Resistance 1, ditto for Resistance 2.
Refused to buy R3 when they put in the online pass. Thanks for playing Insomniac. The only studios that can get away with it are the ones who have AAA titles that own their respective market.
Resistance is a good shooter in a mess of waaaaaay too many shooters. You don't gain market share by limiting the resale and thus distribution of your game. (PSST! most used buyers were NOT going to buy your game new, it wa...
StickTwiddlers is a horrible site. Please do not give them clicks.
Wow, after playing the demo I don't think it is going to be GOTY or anything but that is a little harsh don't you think?
The controls responded fine and the weapons performed as expected for their different functions. Graphically it is the 40K universe... what did you expect, unicorns and anime schoolgirls for opponents while running across rainbow bridges?
It is certainly worth a look, particularly if you like the Warhammer universe.
That is just a horrible, horrible, article on so many levels. I feel dirty for giving them my click. Just like Demon's Souls, I have now learned from my StickTwiddlers mistake and will never go down that path again.
This quote sums it up.
"I’m not saying all games should be accessible to everyone, but they shouldnt deliberately cut people off either."
Yes, you are inherently saying that you think they should be accessible to eve...
Let me guess... you are not very informed about consumer rights and the ramifications of this type of activity and how it is simply an end-around the First Sale Doctrine?
Probably not a big leap to assume you don't see a big deal with the Patriot Act either. I mean heck... you were not really doing anything with those Civil Liberties before they revoked them anyways right?
@hgoodman03
Um yeah, because everyone in professional sports just eats their veggies and works out daily. No roids being used in Football or Baseball...
That said, if the devs care about this they have ways of preventing people from using modded hardware. I am just not sure they care.
I must have missed something. Still no Kill Team (Warhammer 40K)? It was slated for July release on PSN and if I am not mistaken this is the last release day for the month...
You are correct, the law would be a moot point IF every game were digital and that is what both Sony and Insomniac (Devs) would find ideal. The problem is that their sales would be gutted if that were all they offered.
I have been hearing since the 360 (and even before) launched that physical media is dead and "very soon" all games would be DD.
It is a fun thing for people to say until reality smacks them in the face. Greed and more importantly unre...
According to Forbes, about $27 of a $60 game goes to Insomniac in the sale of a new game. $34 if they do their own Marketing and Market Development. I am not saying the Devs should not be getting paid more, but I AM saying that they should not be bleeding the used market (consumer) for more $$$ when a $60 price point is already absurd for most titles.
Take some of it out of all the middle men who are taking their $26 cut on each new sale. You want to know why Best Buy is fine...
Consider it this way, mainstream media is on the decline as far as consumers and revenue. Video games are going in the opposite (more positive) direction.
Media is going to do whatever it can to, A) Pander to their base to keep the viewers/readers they have left. B) Convince those that are still listening that video games are the cause of all the ills in society and must be reigned in!
Just follow the $$$ my friend. Always follow the $$...
She should prioritize those regrets a little better.
"I regret letting a nanny raise my kids and not being a real parent."
"I regret naming my kids Apple and Moses. I now realize they are not dolls and there will be lifelong ramifications for those stupid names."
"Since I decided not to actually be a parent and let my kids be raised by TV and video games, I regret getting my kids a Wii not a real console."
I have NO idea why people resell to Gamestop other than they are uninformed. There are multiple avenues to resell (and in fact rent your own games to gamers) that provide much greater value.
I am with air1 on this. I am opting out on all Online Pass games going forward. The fact that I cannot share my games with friends or use the game on my second console in my own frigging house without logging into the same account is absurd.
Not to mention that this kills the Rental market.
The only way they hear us is by voting with our wallets. If you don't care then that is your right but those of us that do will just go elsewhere for our entertainment...
I am one of those people not purchasing although I loved the hell out of the first two. As I posted in another R3 thread, this is my only way to speak to Sony/Insomniac.
Consumers have been $%^! on long enough long enough IMO. I am not demanding that everyone else do the same, but my release day purchase went to a definite maybe when it hits the bargain bin.
There are too many competing FPS titles that will be equal or better for online experience released in...
Unfortunately I will not be buying this game. Too many competing great titles coming out at the same time that do not have this stupid PSN Pass. You can pull this BS when you have the market cornered. Not when you are a first party title trying to compete with a new CoD and BF 3 in the same release window.
I cannot speak directly to Sony in protest in any way other than to not purchase the game. I am a bit sad as well because I loved the first two.
Maybe when...
While that may be true for some people, there are bigger issues in play here and many of us are more concerned about those. Specifically the attack on consumer rights and the First Sale Doctrine.
Digital only is the devs dream because they then have the ability to implement some pretty draconian DRM on consumers without any recourse on our part. Physical media keeps the power in the consumers court.
