Great point about demos. They're expensive and time-consuming for developers to produce but at the same time, games are expensive and consumers are reticent to shell out money without either trying the game themselves in some small slice or watching a chunk of it.
Huh? I didn't see "illegally downloading" mentioned in the article.
Lots of people wanted a home console on the go, though. Tons of my more-casual friends bought a Vita on that promise and don't give a crap about all the amazing indie games that have come out for it because that's not what they're into. To me, it's not the focus on AAA console-style games that sunk the Vita. It's that they priced it too high for people to justify buying it and they didn't have the proper controls for the console-style type of game.
I started to write about the games situation on Vita before the article felt like it was getting too long and price seemed more important anyway. It's a trickle-down effect: the Vita cost too much, so not people bought it, so there wasn't enough incentive for developers to make big games—like GTA or Kingdom Hearts—for it.
And yeah, same, I love my Vita—when I use it. Tons of great games, especially the indie stuff. It's a shame Sony didn't do right by the syst...
No joke. Before the Vita came out, people looked at it as the second coming. People applauded the $249 price. The 3DS got skewered the whole time, people calling the 3D unnecessary and stupid, the early sales a death note for the handheld, etc. It was crazy to watch a Nintendo handheld do poorly at the market and everybody latched onto it.
Like you said, it's only once the 3DS turned it around and the Vita was clearly in a bad position with an expensive launch and very fe...
If the PSP had been a rousing success, I'd agree with you.
Personally, I never really cared about exclusive games for the Vita. Cross-play is an amazing feature of it and there are a ton of games I own on PS3/PS4 that I'd rather play on Vita and do: Hotline Miami, Rayman Origins, Guacamelee!, etc. I think the Vita could've been an amazing secondary device for the PlayStation line, something you can use to extend your experience on the go like an optional Wii U GamePad that can play your games anywhere with WiFi. Instead Sony crushed that drea...
Journey never initially presented a reason for why you should go toward the mountain in the distance, but you do anyway and it's awesome. I'm thinking of No Man's Sky in those terms.
Can we retire "the end begins" please?
Man I hope this game is good. Cool concept and it's great to hear that the developers just want to ensure a fun time.
I didn't realize it had a flippable front screen. That's a really smart solution.
But that's the reality of business. If 22 Cans doesn't split development to work on a new game given that Godus will only have a limited audience at this point, they will not survive as a company. Call it right, call it wrong, it's the reality of business and they employ 22 people. Focusing solely on Godus means it's that much harder for 22 people to keep a job and pay their bills all to make good on a game most of you people don't give a shit about and aren't going to...
I think you might be thinking of Double Helix, the guys who do Killer Instinct. Harmonix is still independent, I'm pretty sure.
It's "a bit" annoying the first few times it happens. It's more than "a bit" annoying when you have no reason to look forward to the free games anymore because you already know whatever they'll offer, you already own it.
Look at the comments on the PlayStation Blog. Half of it is people going, "Why do I even bother buying these games anymore?" It's actually scaring people off from buying at launch because they know if they wait a ...
The Instant Game Collection didn't launch until later. PS Plus for a long time was just discounts and avatars and stuff. It didn't take off until they said "HEY HERE HAVE ALL THESE GAMES FOR FREE." It was a pretty big deal when they announced it.
Also, to reiterate, none of the games are free.
To be fair, he was also doing that one mobile game Infinity Blade so at least he got some variety there, but it sounds like everybody else at Epic thought it was dumb or something.
