Its a moronic article the 40GB PS3 will never play PS2 games. It simply cannot its psychically impossible. It doesn't have some base PS2 hardware which all other consoles have. They would of never added PS2 hardware to the PS3's to begin with if they didn't have to. They had to add PS2 hardware to PS3's because the games are simply to hard to emulate.

Sorry dude but Final Fantasy 9 was terrible. I dunno in what order you played them in but yes 9 has aged better. But even comparing it to 7 would be a joke am not even sure it started its life as a Final Fantasy game. Its most likely a game that got re-branded Final Fantasy mid development.

40GB PS3's Will never be able to play PS2 games, anyone who has tried to emulate PS2 games on a Quad Core PC knows this for a fact. Simply put the 40GB PS3 has a new main board that doesn't have any PS2 chip sets. It saves Sony huge money on manufacturing costs its smaller and redesigned.

If your console doesn't have PS2 support it never will. Not even the fastest PC's on the market can emulate PS2 games very well .The PS3 just wouldn't be fast enough to purely software emulate PS2 games.
If they could of done that they would of never added PS2 hardware to PS3's from the start. Sony haven't cut backwards compatibility to spite people. They needed to remove the PS2 hardware from the PS3 to save manufacturing costs.
Well I haven't tried on my own PS3 I have a 24" monitor so I haven't had much need. But my friend can't play AVI's when I burn them for him. Although he doesn't have the internet and hasn't updated his PS3 in about 6 months.
