Thanks for the feedback. This article is largely positive toward the game, so I'm not sure why you're getting so high-strung over it. I have a different opinion about some aspects of the game from you -- I'm not sorry about that.
The original was epic.
I don't really NEED in the Torchlight II beta, what with Diablo III in only a few days. But I would very much like to check it out.
Just to clarify, Braindeadly was NOT the one who posted the contract to Reddit. That was a user called MachinimaThrowAway, who apparently works for the company in some capacity.
I don't believe that Braindeadly is fabricating the situation. It is certainly possible that Machinima is feeding him false information about his own contract, though I am not going to accuse them of that. It's just possible is all. At the same time Braindeadly could be misunderstanding things, but that also seems a bit far-fetched.
Absolutely. I have to say that I think Machinima's stance of "you're with us for life" seems more than a little draconian though. This entire situation is creating some really bad press for the company and I don't doubt that Braindeadly will be out of his contract within the next month or two. It wouldn't surprise me if I am wrong, but I don't think I am.
I'm kind of pumped myself, despite not having a whole lot of love for Zelda. As my flame shield, I acknowledge that the games are excellent; they just don't appeal to my own tastes. I was really too young to grasp Ocarina of Time's intricacies when I had it for the Nintendo 64, and so I'll give this pseudo-remake a go and try to figure out what all the reverse-hype was about.
If anyone has any feedback for me regarding the writing or anything, drop a comment. I'm totally open to criticism.
If anyone would like to leave Alex some thoughts on the game or any critique on his writing, both he and myself would appreciate it if you'd post a comment on the review! Keep it constructive if you could, and we'll be sure to take everything you say into account.
I enjoyed the game thoroughly, but I just hope they do something to vary up the redundant combat a bit in the sequel. Flashlight-dodge-shoot is only interesting for so long, and it's never really engaging.
As I said in the review, the game's strength is without a doubt its take on narrative, and I hope that any sequel Remedy might be planning can live up. There's plenty to love in this package.
I just found that the real-time strategy mechanics were far too confining, and inherently suffered from the same pitfalls that ail most other titles attempting to translate the RTS style of gameplay to consoles. The controller just isn't up to snuff to handle it. I'm not saying that it *can't* handle it, just that it doesn't.
Uncharted 2 was admittedly off my radar going into E3. I was really dying to see what would come out of BioWare's Star Wars MMO and Final Fantasy XIII, and while both of those still impressed (obviously), Uncharted blew my mind.
I don't know what the end result will be, which should go without saying, but I hope it's at least interesting. I'm glad to see they're trying something new. I assume they have begun work on Final Fantasy 15, and I hope they are thinking long and hard about what that product needs to be.
