The time trial mode needs the 1.2 update, hence with the 1.1 it fails to boot.
To cure this go to the game data utility and delete the 1.1 update (as this removes the timetrial update too), boot up motorstorm (it will work now) and go to 'online' to get the 1.2 update, then redownload the timetrail mode from the PS store and all is well and will work fine.

It seems odd the Square Enix would license the U3 engine, as they have already spent so much time developing the white engine. If indeed it is for development on the xbox360 and pc, wouldn't it have been better for them to adapt they're own engine for use on platforms other than the PS3? And if its for PS3 development too, I'm just lost for words.
I can see them wanting to work on more than one platform, but it seems to make more sense to adapt their own engine than license another one...

Ridiculous to monsterous proportions, demos never represent the quality of the final game and unless they are released after the full game has gone gold then they are always non-final builds. Demos are just that a demonstration, and example or glimpse of whats to come.
