Played the demo and the old control scheme absolutely breaks the game. RE4 was fine, so was MGS2, but I wouldn't go back to either of them knowing how much better controls have evolved over the years. The excuse that the limited control heightens the fear-factor is ludicrous; playing with the controller upside down would maximize the fear if this were true.
This has definitely dropped from a must-buy to a maybe-rental.
I use a 30" Samsung CRT HDTV. It's heavy and cheap ($600) but beats any flat panel in terms of black levels and contrast. I sometimes play on a 46" Samsung LN-T4665F and the PQ is garbage compared to the 30".
