Mainly aimed at competitive play, so players can use select buttons more conveniently. Also, it's not expensive and the screen is to easily identify what buttons the back buttons have been assigned to. I'd assume it'll be built in to the PS5 controller.

Exactly this. Even the few decent exclusives Xbox has had this gen haven't really sold well at all. Xbox users just don't support these exclusives enough which is a shame.
