hmmm... so now PS3 is a stepping stone for the future and not the future itself?
I don't think there's anything wrong with PS3's hardware performance. I just think that Sony's strategy (or lack of it) thus far has gone quite wrong, and that might cause irrepairable damage.
Why draw parallels on a superficial level without examining the underlying conditions that caused PS2 to prevail over Dreamcast?
I don't see any signs of developers not making games for Xbox360 (like in the case of Dreamcast) - in fact quite the opposite. Frankly, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if even Final Fantasy hops over to 360 next year, especially if Blue Dragon has a good showing in Japan and Sony continues to have shortages for an extended period of time. And we al...
Maybe PS2's attach rate was low because most people were playing pirated games? I can't imagine even a casual gamer spending $$$ on a console and not try to stretch that capital layout with more than 3 games. I personally bought well over 10 games within half a year.
I'm looking at Gamespot's ratings of Wii launch games and PS3 launch games and they're both not exactly very encouraging. There are only 2 games on Wii that appeals to me and none on PS3. I guess that means that neither are must-haves for me for the immediate future, and if I had to choose one now, I'd go with Wii.
I'm glad that Nintendo has decided to take gaming in a different direction. Not that there's anything wrong with the direction headed by Microsoft and Sony, but variety is good. I'd sooner have Wii as a 2nd console than PS3 for the simple reason that it'll offer something different.
Has Gamepro really played RFOM multiplayer with 40 players online to make a meaningful assessment of its merits?
I think there could have been a lot more launch titles given the year of delay, but because PS3 quantities are not available till later, I guess companies don't want to release their games till then. The "new game" label sells better.
I have to wonder, is the Wii control not easy to use or are Gamespot staff just not very good at playing games?
And although the games appear to be fun, Gamespot don't appear to be very engaged playing them.
If they saved half that money and reduced the price of Wii by $50, that would have sold more Wiis?
Surprise, surprise! A games store in my country managed to get quite a few sets of PS3 from Japan and they're selling them tomorrow at a very put-offish price of about USD1,000 (360 sells for about USD400).
I saw the packaging of the Sixaxis and the games, and to be absolutely honest, they're downright cheap-looking. The poor quality of packaging is shocking given how Sony is promoting PS3 as a sophisticated upper-class design.
When I first saw the games, I tho...
If Nintendo had priced Wii cheaper as certainly they could have, Wii would have stood a good chance of selling almost the same way DS has sold. I'm not sure that the targeted non-gamers will be willing to fork out US$250 for something that they're not seriously into.
I fully agree that more storage space is obviously a good thing. But at what price? The way things have unfolded for Sony, it has cost them a lot because Blu-ray was the chief culprit of the long delay in launch, and is the chief culprit of the shortages to come. And as seen in another recently posted article, the delay and shortages may well have profound ramifications for Playstation's status in Japan, and thereafter worldwide.
Why the insistence on incorporating Blu-ray a...
And it is all Blu-ray's fault that Nintendo is in a good position to become the dominant console in Japan because of PS3 shortages for the immediate future.
However, Sony might well be in a position to continue paying big money to developers to make exclusives for PS3, and if they can sustain such losses, they might still be able to hold their ground in the long term.
Plain and simply, Sony insisted on incorporating Blu-ray into the PS3 to win the format war against HD-DVD, and not to win the console war (which I assume they were confident of winning because of the dominance of PS2). It backfired, and now they may even lose their dominance in the console war as a result of the delays in the PS3 launch. Can you imagine if PS3 had launched (without Blu-ray) at a competitive price last year? I know Xbox360 wouldn't have stood a chance where I'm from simply...
I completed the game and must say that it was not a good game. Graphics are very bad for a game on the 360 platform and gameplay isn't engaging either. Just mindless shooting away with some magic involved.

he did not say that the PS3 is not pricey or expensive...
The point of this article is simply that Sony is not entirely truthful in their statement because they could have incorporated rumble and motion sensing into their controller at little cost which would have enhanced the gaming experience. The end.
Next gen is simply about technological advancement and being able to do something with it that could not be done before. Graphics and audio are definitely a part of next gen experience. Online features and sophisticated motion sensors also qualify. I suppose you can also say Blu-ray with increased storage is next gen, although it does not affect gameplay directly. But simulating characters - um isn't that more of a software issue rather than a hardware issue?
I see a lot of rabid fanboys here, but none from Nintendo. Care to explain...?
