Honestly eonjay I feel as if last gens console really helped push Japan forwards mobile....I mean the games the Japanese are really into like persona 4, the classic turn based final fantasy and ICO are all remnants of the ps2 era.
Last gen gaming moved towards huge set pieces and pretty graphics curtained over mostly fps, there were few traditional Japanese experiences available last gen, games like ni no kuni and xenoblade didn't arrive till the end of the gen.
