Eh, after playing Bad Company 2, the whole CoD franchise has lost it's appeal to me. Black Ops is going to need to be amazing for me to pick it up.
Hey, I liked Bad Boys 2. It was stupid, but it was fun.
@boodybandit
Generally when people use the word "we" in an article they are referring to the publication they work for...
I could go for Dragon Age 2. Still need to finish all the DLC though.
Man, they made it so easy to do the whole "Hide the item in the corner and then steal it" trick in Fallout 3. I couldn't help but do it!
The JRPG format really needs to change. The genre has barely changed since the 16-bit era and it's really annoying when a company does something to change the formula and people immediately bash. Not that the author of the article is doing that, but I would rather see devs try things that fail than have them regurgitate the same game over and over.
I remember playing Greendog alot. That game was awesome.
Man I HATED that Cheetos game. Coolspot and McKids were awesome, though.
I always thought it was weird that Evony ads seemed like they were taken out of a Victoria's Secrets catalog.
I loved LittleBigPlanet and it was one of the only PS3 games I've played that didn't have an absolutley god-awful online interface.
Because that's how games get better? You can't improve without criticism.
I never found that game to be hard in way that isn't fun. There are few cheap deaths that are nearly impossible to avoid without fore knowledge but it's never unfair. I found Devil May Cry 3 and Far Cry 2 to be more punishing in a way that makes the game a chore to play.
Eh, depends on your region and the game I guess. Some games are priced the same as they are in the US retail, like Mass Effect and BF: Bad Company, but some just baffle me. 39.99 for CoD2? I can get that for 5 bucks from Gamestop.
It's exactly the same as a normal downloaded game.
I don't like the term they use for this because games on demand, at least for me, means services like Gametap or Onlive.
Kinda surprised to see the wii getting a price cut. It really didn't need a boost in sales.
But Frank West has covered wars ya know.
The problem with the unreal engine isn't with the actual engine. Many games use unreal and don't fall into the Gears of War clone category. The problem is that these devs are just grabbing unreal and making their own version of Gears of War.
I don't know the Elder Scrolls games have that non-linearity to them. You can pretty much just do whatever you want and have an enjoyable experience. That said I do agree with the author of the article in that most "non-linear" games just give you different ways of getting to point a to point b. You are still ultimately dong the same thing no matter what.
It's hard to say that retail is dieing when gamestop is still raking in record profits. I don't see retail going away anytime soon, especially not for the console markets.
As for the DRM issue, it really isn't an issue at all. As was pointed out in the article, the big three aren't going anywhere, so I don't see what the big deal is.
I really hope they don't try and charge for PSN in it's current state. Right now it doesn't even come close to XBL in terms of ease of use and integration into games. And come on, no cross-game chat! That's one of the reasons I don't play my PS3 that often.
