My impression is valve is pursuing Vulkan and it's gaming OS because Microsoft will be doing the same, and that will be difficult competition for them especially if MS changes the rules on how gaming is accessed on their new Windows 10/Xbox.
I've been wondering why gpu's havent had those leaps in performance that they did previously. And the prices remain high. Maybe they are just waiting for 3d memory to show off the new guns.

Needed more multiplayer options, after playing ZombiU I was convinced that the Wii U would enable the perfect DnD experience. Unfortunately nothing has happened since.
Gears 1 would make an easy port considering it was already released on PC.

valve's tech makes more sense as it does not require such a great resolution, OR frame rate. Unless they are targeting only indies.
