It's very true HD-DVD was and has been winning the stand alone player war. The PS3 created an artificial market not chosen by the people. Sony pretty much shoved Blu-ray down the publics throat even though the public chose HD-DVD because it is better. The exact same movie quality with more features.
It difference with the PS2 and PS3 also is that DVD at the time of release was the leading new standard where has Blu-Ray was not the leading standard, HD-DVD was. Nothing like have...
The reason to swap the analog stick with the D-pad is that analog sticks are much more precise and pressure sensitive then a D-Pad. This makes them far better for controlling a game then a D-Pad. There is a reason D-Pads aren't positioned as the main controlling mechanism on any system anymore other then the Playstations. They are an old technology and not a precise way of controlling a game.
The problem with the sixaxis is it still uses the PS1 design. The PS1 dual shock wasn'...
Either he edited his comment or I miss read it. If he didn't edit his comment, I'm sorry for telling you to grow up.
I'm sorry but I'm tired of hearing this argument from spoiled little kids and teenagers. The Wii isn't hurting the PS3 and 360. Both those systems offer some thing completely different then the Wii.
Also even if it is hurting the PS3 and X-Box 360 deal with it. The gaming industry has been catering to spoiled little boys and male teenagers for the past 8 years with endless recycled first person shooters and fighters. Heaven forbid your parents, your girlfriend, and your grandp...
Don't you know, that's Sony's moral philosophy since launch. Just wait and we're going to blow every thing out of the water even though we don't show you anything; just wait and you'll see. I myself find this insulting, pretentious, and annoying as a customer, however before I get mauled alived by fanboys, it could happen. If Sony has some thing to show, then show it, but please don't tell me to wait and I'll see. Many sundered and desperate men, clinging to their last strand of dignity, have...
Ooo well. I see these type of comparisons going for a long time sadly.
You might think so, but the reviewer doesn't. He even states it in his article, making his whole article hypocritcal. He is supporting a product he himself won't buy which a horrible thing to do as a journalist. Why would you say how good a product is when you aren't willing to buy it yourself?
I have used the PS3 quit abit, and I personally don't feel, as a gaming console, it is worth 600$ in it's current state. Maybe if I cared about blu-ray movies I could justify it but I do...
He didn't buy one. It was a gift from Sony. The only reason I call him a tool and find this article pointless is because at the end of it he says he wouldn't pay 400 euros for a PS3. Why are you supporting a product you won't even buy yourself? Because it was a gift? Well the rest of us have to spend the 400euros so please don't miss lead us.
You sir, are an idoit.
If I'm understanding your reasoning properly Phill Harrison could crap in a box, label it Playstation, and you would buy it. Hell I'll crap in a box, label it Playstation, and sell it to you for 600$; Pure genious. Thank you for showing me the light.
I have a feeling you're going to get ripped off in your life more then a few times.
What's kind of comical to me and ironic is he makes this list of 10 things he likes about the PS3 but then at the end states how he wouldn't spend 400 ueros on one and it was a gift from sony. Apperantly they're not 400 ueros likeable.
I also like how he complains about the wireless adapter on the 360 because you have to pay extra but doesn't take into account you still spend less on a 360 once you buy one.
I have to agree putting the power button on the list is ...
First off this isn't even for Popular Science. It's for PPX. They just used the term popular science.
Second of all, the only reason the PS2 has and is still selling so well is because it dropped below 200$. This will never happen with the PS3 until the very end of it's 10 year cycle. Brand recognition means nothing when people can't afford the product. I know Vipers are great cars and I would love to buy one, but I'm much more likely to get a cheaper BMW, Honda, or Toyota.

Man people can always find something to complain about. This is nothing new, and it has been done before on online computer games. There is a reason they setup region specific servers.
If you've ever tried playing people in europe on a FPS or any fast paced game you'll understand why they did this with Mario Striker. Data isn't magically transported instantly from one location to another. It takes time for it to travel, and even .2 seconds(200 Ping) or .3 seconds(300 Ping) of l...
Better Watch it Scrumptious Xbot_killer is going to take away a bubble and starting attacking you because you said the Xbox doesn't have a connectivity problem.
Don't you know that stating a fact about the Xbox makes you a Xbox fanboy?
You sir are a hypocrite.
*Oops double post.
You sir are a hypocrite.
This guy contradicts himself multiple times and is not insightful at all. He either is bashing the Wii and Nintendo to get attention or is a idiot. I choose the latter one.
Original Statement-
"Nintendo focuses on babies."
Contradictory Statement-
"Their games are long, complex, and needlessly convoluted, adding little to story or satisfaction." That isn't really geared towards babies. Hell I'd bet money more little kids play FP...
It has very little to do at this point with games. Hell the PS3 could have all the exclusives, but at 600$ it's not going to appeal to the majority of consumers. Most people don't have 600$ to drop on a game console like it's nothing. Even at 500$ it might pick up a little but it wouldn't sky rocket.
Sony has put themselves in a hard place by alienating themselves from the mass audience of consumers that bought the ps2 for 200 dollars.
I don't believe a price drop will even change things that much. Sony has already lost a massive amount of money on the PS3 and if they drop it by 100 dollars the gap will just increase. But a 100 dollar decrease isn't going to even put it close to the mass consumer price range. 500 dollars is to expensive for most people. The PS2 didn't hit huge until it got in the 200$ range.
It might help push a few extra sales, however I don't believe it will create a spike in sales.

This is an interesting way to look at it, and a nice little spin to the facts considering the DS has sold twice as many units and still isn't stopping.
Ooo well, give a mathematical statician some numbers and money and he will give you the results you want. If we were to apply this to the PS3 every PS3 sold is equal to 2.4 Wiis. Hey the PS3 isn't as far behind as we thought.
By the way the PSP is a pretty solid little system, but it was a little to pricy for a ha...
I agree this is god news for Sony but it is far from the turning point.
Price cuts, especially at the high starting point of the PS3, only relocate demand but don't do much to increase it. When the whisper of a price cut is heard people will hold off purchasing a PS3 until it finally comes or the whisper is completely silenced. This then create a large spike in sales for a short term but in due time they will steady back to a nice mean.
However, it will probably ...
