Its speculated, that its kind of a hybrid architecture with GCN support (PS5).
Hence MS is boasting their back-compatibility coz of their software progress in that department and hence went full RDNA2 for 9th gen i.e no hardware legacy support for 8th gen software.

Cache will always be there ... that's fundamental to modern CPU design. L1, L2, ....
but the touted infinity cache introduced in the other RDNA2 architecture seems to be missing.

Its pretty straight-forward, innit?
The only reason ME1 was not considered a viable option to start because it lacked the improvements and streamlining the ME2 brought.
Hence, ME1 is supposed to get the most improvements in this re-release and the top selling point of this edition as a result.
