This custom firmware is great news. I might consider picking up a PS3 now.

it appears as if the texture for the road had been loaded too late for some reason. It goes to show that slow access times of the bluray technology can be a problem for game developers. With a little optimization this should not be a problem in the final product however.
And in case textures have been installed to the PS3 hard drive for this exact reason, disregard what I have written altogether.
Then there has been a bug that miscalculated the proximity of the player and this...

btw, the Silver account gives you access to demos, videos, updates, etc...

But do you realize, that Sony offering a premium service is VERY SIMILAR to Micro$oft's, except for the online play part.

Don't be a fool, it could be just a step away from a service like LIVE.

Are you really that NAIVE to believe that Sony wouldn't make a profit when they are in the position to do so? Do you think they have some kind of 'morals' or they would consider it immoral ...

You guys seem all happy about this anouncement. Wasn't xbox life critizised for being not free?
And isn't this move by Sony a clear step into that direction. Remember, they are a business, of course they will try to make you buy the premium service. I hope they won't force you like Microsoft by making online play available only for premium users (its the only reason I pay for Live).
But still it is a sad day for the console consumer where a premium has to be payed for things that ...

production costs wouldn't go down in any significant way. Maybe a dollar or two.
Also removing the wireless chipset would lower cost only by perhaps $10 (at most). Since I do not have any source to back this up other than that I believe that production costs are comparable to PC hardware costs.
How they probably could lower cost significantly, is by reducing factory assembly costs by optimizing the design so it can be assembled in less steps - therefore saving on expensive human r...

Don't worry, it happens about only 30.000(!) times annually. About 30000 people in America get killed by guns annually. 90% of them by handguns. No wonder the NRA is fighting hard against federal tracking of gun deaths.

Gotta love the 2nd ammendment, because I like shooting.

And yeah, whats the purpose of a loaded shotgun in the house? Daddy did a great job "protecting" his familiy.

aha, lol, well you just prooved my point. There is a huge difference between a 17" Notebook and a 13". Its hard to call 17" size portable in comparison.

and you pointed out with your link to newegg that there is no comparable power for the same price. Look at all the 13" models, they all have ultra crappy graphic cards (Intel GMA 4500 omg), and thats what matters for gaming!
2.0 or 2.4 Ghz clockspeed is only gonna make a difference of a few FPS.

Desktop maybe, Notebook I doubt it.

I personally bought a new MacBook Aluminium for $1200.
It has 2.0 Ghz dual core, 160gb memory, 2gb DDR III memory,
and a pretty decent nvidia 9300 graphics card, nice for gaming.
and all that (relatively) powerful hardware is crammed into a pretty small and extremely stylish 13" alluminium block.

now please find me a notebook with the same specs as stated above anywhere near $1200!

and bigger har...

what are you talking about? ever used XP on a notebook?

hell, even windows 98 supports hibernation, which was released 11 years ago !!!
all you need is an ACPI capable motherboard (pretty much everything since Pentium II !)

(btw, also win 95 supported hibernation with special drivers)

so please get your facts straight.

other than that I aggree with your post.

PS: Vista seriously sucks ass (and I really tried hard to like it) ...

on the PS3 is that the Blueray drive is not perfecly suited for gaming. It does have a lot of space, however it has relatively slow access times. Thus a game on PS3 needs to be optimized to provide a constant data stream. And that is not like its easy to do. What developers therefore do is to spread the same data multiple times on the disk to improve reading speeds.
But seriously, whats the big deal of installing a game if it improves performance? Its very naive and ignorant to blame it...

Maybe should PS3 fanboys should stop blaming "dumb" and "lazy" developers for inferior ports on their mighty PS3.
Be happy that its even available on PS3, its a difficult technology to work with.
So, also what do you care about a SLIGHTLY inferior port. Play it, and enjoy it. Unless its buggy or looks like sh!t, there reason to complain. Look, I like to play even newer games on my crappy PC. Now, do I start whining because it COULD look better on a $2000 rig? ...

I will take XP SP2 over sucking Vista Ultimate ANY day!

I also must admit I very much like Leopard even though it sucks for gaming.

6295d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Simple reason. The X-Box has a DVD-drive, the PS3 Bluray. Bluray has far more capacity but slower reading speed and access times, very essential for a game like FC2. And even the X-Box DOES have pop-up problems. So if the XBox would use it's HD, maybe there would be fewer.

I can't believe we are still having these conversations! We all surely know by now that it's down to good programming? I will use one example (because that is all I need). Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. Open world, no load screens, no pop-in, no install and some of the best graphics to date. There you go, we know it can be done, so stop blaming the PS3 when it is in fact the devs that need to optimize.

I don't know if you have ever programed anything. Sure, no doubt its POSSIBLE, but...

Still sometimes I wish there was the OPTION(!) to install games to HD on my XBox, too. It would speed-up loading times, even though they aren't so bad. But the main reason for me is that it would cause the DVD-drive to get less on my nerves, its freaking loud.
But then we should have the "choice" to use our own harddrives, not the ridiculously expensive ones from MS.
Look at the PC. From a technical perspective its no problem to play every game directly from disk. Still ...
