If someone wants to buy an obsolete player for $425, good luck to them. I just hope they realize this player will not be in spec come November.

They really want to sell systems! I wonder what Sony will do to counter?

This will be coming out for the 360 because they can sell 5 times more copies than they can on PS3.

The point is: including Blu-ray has increased the costs of PS3 to the point where it is too expensive as a game machine.

Yes, PS3 is a major disappointment. It's not just me saying it... it's game publishers, retailers and industry analysts.

NCAA football sold 89,000 copies for PS3, compared to 468,000 for the Xbox 360. We also know that counting PS3 as a Blu-ray player lowers the attach rate for movies, diluting the higher attach rate of standalone players. Some are using it for games, some are using it for movies. Unless you're using if for both, it is really hurting Sony.

As a videogame device, PS3 is turing into a major flop. It's losing exclusives to the 360. Both EA & Midway expressed disappointment in th...

This is the biggest BS story ever posted on this site. It comes directly from blu-ray.com and is yet another example of them trying to mislead the public.

This atricle contains errors... HD DVD is doing better than ever.

The only thing is: they don’t take into account that the $399 Xbox includes High-def cables and the HD DVD add-on includes a movie remote. Also, the Xbox HD DVD player includes a 6th movie, King Kong, in the box.

The Sony brand AV cable ($30) & remote ($25) add $55 to the PS3’s price. King Kong is a $30 MSRP. In total, you should add $80 to the PS3’s price to make it equal.

Look on Amazon, there are always 2 or 3 HD DVD models ranked better than the first stanalone Blu-ray player (excluding PS3).

Microsoft had the best software impact, Sony had the best hardware impact and Nintendo? I'll be honest, I haven't played my Wii in 4 months and I don't think I'll buy another game again. It was fun for a few days, but just like a Nintendo power glove, it wears thin. Time for the Wii fad to end.

1. Price drop on all SKUs
2. New SKU with internal HD DVD
3. Price drop on HD DVD add-on
4. MGS4 and other PS3 exlusives announced for 360
5. 3 or 4 new IPs

Now that's a wish list, how bout it Microsoft?

It could be nothing.. it could be a $199 core.. could be a $500 HD DVD included Elite+ ... it could be a simple trick of the lighting...

My guess: Intoducing a 4th SKU would be tricky, my guess is it's the core system, meaning all 3 SKUs would have a unique color. We'll see, can't wait for tonight!

A downloadable expansion pack would sell millions.

I heard the 80 GB hard drive costs Sony the same as the 60 GB hard drive. And considering they took out the PS2 chips, this is more of a value to Sony than the customer.

I agree that the xbox 360 HD DVD drive needs a price cut, and it should get one soon.

Here's the billion dollar question: Is it better to force everyone to buy a Blu-ray player and sell a machine for $500, or is it better to let gamers buy just a game system for much cheaper, and give them the option for high def movies with an accessory?

I think PS3 is losing a lot of market because they are forcing you to buy a Blu-ray player even if you don't have a high-def T...

Great posting, way to add nothing to the conversation.

If you are undecided and you are waiting for a clear winner, my advice to you is get an HD DVD player, they are a minimum $200 less than the cheapest Blu-ray player. Take special note that the Blu-ray spec isn’t don’t yet and even the new $500 BD-300 doesn’t have an Ethernet port, so it will not be in spec come November (unable to do web related features). Therefore the cheapest player that can stay in spec is the $600 PS3.

If you don’t want to get caught with a dead format, th...

You obviously know nothing about AV equipment. 1080p TVs display the same signal at 1080i as they do at 1080p. They receive 60 1080i frames and assemble them or they receive 30 1080p frames and don’t. Obviously 1080p is less work for the TV, but the end picture looks the same (on most HDTVs).
