I think Microsoft raised prices because their plan was to take a loss for every Xbox sold and make it up with gamepads subscription and software sales but now they going full third party, I think higher up in Microsoft saying we are no subsidizing hardware profit loss and hence they increased the price regardless how ridiculous it may seem
I think Phil is generally a solid leader, but he made a massive tactical error by acquiring Activision at the worst possible time. He bought it when interest rates were at rock bottom and valuations were hyper-inflated. Now, it feels like Microsoft is doing everything in its power just to recoup that cost—hence the layoffs, Game Pass price hikes, and the pivot to multi-platform releases.
