I think they will drop the price without notice.
If they were to announce a date when they would drop the price, people would hold off on buying a PS3 until that date in order to save money. That would mean a big loss for Sony between now and the price drop because no one would buy.
On the other hand by keeping their mouths shut people will continue to buy the PS3 w/o anticipation of a price drop.

on the success of Gears of War. The PS3's standard HDD, Blu-Ray disc space and the cell processor would have made Gears of War look much better running on the PS3.
