I would have purchased it but no single player campaign. That was a no sale for me. I am one of those few individuals who prefers single player over multiplayer. Same with Star Wars Battlefront. I was excited about it until I saw that there was no single player campaign. There is a bots mode, but it is not a single player campaign.
It was not subpar. You unfairly judge it by comparing it to the PS3 versions. For a "handheld" game, it is perhaps one of the best handheld games that I have ever played. I have a Vita, and Golden Abyss is still my most favorite handheld game. Nothing since it came out compares (well, maybe Killzone Mercenary).
Prediction: Sony will not even mention Vita, will be lucky to have an Indie game mentioned for it. I love my PS4, but I don't utilize remote play on the road (no wifi). At least release older PS games like Okami and Shadow of Colossus HD and get 2K to release San Andreas HD on Vita.
I would love to pick up Amazing Spiderman 2 (PS4) but $23 does not seem like a sale price for a game that has been out for a while now. If they had priced under $15, I would be all over it.
Love 2K (Rockstar) and love playing GTA5 on PS4. But I am unhappy that Rockstar has not released one game on the Vita. I would have loved to have seen San Andreas on the go.
PSP had 3 GTA games, Vita has 0. PSP had numerous NBA games (14 different one), Vita has 0. PSP had 2 original God of War games, Vita had to settle for the HD collection. PSP had Capcom, Vita not so much. PSP had EA and Konami support, EA and Konami gave up on Vita after year one. This is where Vita is lacking and where it really needs to improve.
I have a cell phone but I refuse to get games for it. Unfortunetly everyone else seems to play games on it. I want Take Two to bring their games to Vita or 3DS, not to mobile.
None of these games will make Vita popular here. They are too niche or Indie. Vita needs original games like GTA, Devil May Cry, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Infamous, Final Fantasy, Call of Duty that is actually good, and other brand games that people recognize.
Games that need to come to Vita:
1) other sports titles like NBA, NHL, WWE.
2) new Infamous, God of War, Syphon Filter, more games of this type.
3) original GTA or Saints Row. Would settle for San Andreas Hd at this point.
These are good games, but lets be honest these are not popular enough to get people to buy a Vita. Casual gamers have not heard of half of these. Vita needs AAA brand name games that have brand name recognition. GTA, Infamous, God of War, Fallout, Ratchet, Devil May Cry, Mass Effect, NBA 2K and others are just some examples. And I am not talking port or HD collections (some of which you can get). Vita needs Vita specific games from those brand name games.
Another prediction: We (Vita owners) will continue to hope that Sony will announce like 4 or 5 AAA brand name games for Vita (from Sony and 3rd Party). Instead, we will get a handful of Indie announcements. Or worse yet, nothing. Vita owners will be disappointed yet again, and continue to hold out hope.
Atlus has commented on the playstation blog that Persona 5 will not happen on Vita (it was a question asked on the forum). So I would not hold my breath for it.
I want original AAA brand name Vita games like GTA or Infamous, but at this point would settle for ports. How sad how is has become, that it has come to a point where we (Vita owners) are now hoping for at least a port of a PS2 or PS3 game.
If Sony and other publishers will not develop original Vita games, then these 5 port games need to happen:
GTA San Andreas (Saints Row or something in this gameplay)
NBA 2K (also NHL)
Infamous
Shadow of Colossus/Ico
Devil May Cry Trilogy
PS4 Portable that plays PS4 digital games only. How awesome would that be?
These are really bad suggestions. Free burritos, really?
Vita can't handle games like Far Cry 4. Have to be more realistic. In my opinion these need to come to Vita:
1) GTA, Saints Row or some type of open world game.
2) NBA 2K (also NHL, WWE, and a new Madden).
3)Infamous
4) a new Final Fantasy game
5) Western RPG, something like Dragon Age or Fallout (maybe Fallout 1 and 2 in HD).
Can't bring Remote Play or Now with you.
I would be one to consider these games. There are gamers out there (like me) who would not mind re-buying them. It means that I can sell off my PS3 sooner than later. And some of these like Saint Row 4, I have not had a chance to buy yet; its a win for me as it has extra stuff. And I also get to revisit Grim Fandango on my Vita. Yayy. Unlike others here, I want more remasters. For example, I heard that Beyond Two Souls might be coming to PS4, so I held off buying it for PS3.
Vita could have a strong year if they release a couple of key franchises from Sony and 3rd Party publishers:
1) Infamous
2) New original GTA
3) GTA San Andreas Remastered
4) Some type of a Final Fantasy game
5) NBA
4) Uncharted GA 2
5) Syphon Filter
6) Get Capcom, 2K and EA to make games for Vita.
7) A western RPG would be nice. Something like Dragon Age, Fallout (heck remaster Fallout 1 and 2).
8) NHL
...
I welcome Remasters and straight out ports as long as they include all the DLC. I never got around to Dishonored, but recently picked up the complete edition for PS4 (all the DLC included).
