The PS2 was going strong when PS3 arrived. That's not a cogent reason.. At some point, gadgets become redundant. Phones don't get dated, before a yearly remix.
The PS4 is doing fine, quite alright......... it won't prevent Sony from moving forward. Today's success is the enemy of Tomorrow Success if wisdom is not applied. The PS5 is coming and nothing is apparently going to stop it.
