It's more realistic because women were very rarely deployed as soldiers in WW1. Not because gamers don't associate with female characters. I'm pretty sure most female characters in any video games are played by guys anyways.

Kids may not want it but us adults & teens would LOVE more ww2 games! They're the best time for first person war games! Not this futuristic child swearing mod fest.
Thank goodness, I have gotten so sick of these modern and futuristic shooters which have saturated the gaming market. Finally, a chance to showcase the Red Army, the real heros of the Second World War who are more often then not simply glossed over.

This sounds likely. The last Battlefield 4 DLC gave us hover tanks and other futuristic weapons and vehicles similar to Battlefield 2142. Makes sense for that DLC to lead into Battlefield 5. Female lead is 50/50. Games are having female characters in the main roles like that one mission in Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, etc so I wouldn't be surprised if they finally had one as the lead.
The thing is, these people weren't just addicted. Like all addicts of any kind, they needed help. They were unhappy with their lives so much that they gave in to the addiction.
I would have had some more old school titles in there as well, like FF1 or Dragon Warrior, or phantasy star.
