Super Mario Galaxy has sold more and has reviewed better than any PS3 Exclusive.
That is actually pretty cool.
The PS3 has the smallest fanbase period. Though the vocal minority usually dominates the internet so I can see the PS3 have a large fanbase.
As for what Sony said. It is just damage control and nothing more.

If PS3 gets a price cut it would be $50 at the most and even then Sony would be taking a loss at $250.
