Surely you have the capacity to understand that a game being developed from the ground up for next gen hardware can still work on previous gen. Any cross gen gen has development start on one lead platform. Either the target console is PS4 or PS5. Depending which is the target console, the other version ends up being scaled back or optimized. Sony has announced that they are building games to take full advantage of the PS5. This means they are then taking these PS5 builds and modifying them to...
"hence the design is based around current gen limitations, hence it's a current gen game." Guess that's why you go by Captain Obvious. Of course the version being made for a previous gen must be developed with the weaker console in mind. Doesn't mean the one releasing for the new generation can't take full advantage of the hardware.
Cross-gen literally means it is playable on more than one machine. The only way the game is held back from a development standpoint is that time must be spent on making it compatible for a previous gen console. This means stripping away what makes it a next-gen game. Some games are designed from the ground-up for current gen then made available on next gen consoles. While that is ALSO a way to define cross-gen Sony has been clear that games like Spider-man, Horizon, and several others are bei...
People jump to conclusions.
Fans on both sides jumped the gun assuming what all this messaging means. Even Microsoft change their strategy and clarified that some games will be Xbox Series X exclusive. Console launches are tough. These games are being developed for next-gen hardware. To think these companies would not offer downgraded options for current-gen is madness.
For those who reserved a spot on PlayStation.com those emails are now going out. Retailers taking pre-orders early has nothing to do with Sony. Chill out.
They are making games from the ground-up for PS5. A company can change its business strategy without being called liars. Changing strategy is not lying you fools.
Cross-gen does NOT mean a game is not true-next gen. It only means the version releasing on a previous-gen (PS4) is not next-gen. Some of you are dense. The article even states that games like Spider-Man, Horizon, etc were built from the ground up to take advantage of the PS5.
Except, there's the game library issue. The same game library issue that has never been an issue for Bintendo but has been an issue for Microsoft the ast 6-8 years.
Microsoft has been working their asses off to promote Gamepass, as if their success depends on it (it does). Meanwhile, Sony has done practically nothing to promote PS Now and have 2 million+ subscribers. Sony could easily meet or surpass Gamepass if they needed to.
Looks dated. Not sure why they are releasing this without a significant update.
It is true. Sony is the market leader. Microsft is the one who had the pressure (if either of them did) to make a bold move.
Sony is the market leader so therefore it's less crucial for them to make a bold move. The pressure is all Microsoft.
Looks like an Alan Wake rip-off running on the Switch.
It's first come first serve. Nothing to do with your standing with Sony or past buying habits.
Entitled, eh?
Let's be honest. Anything less impressive would have been a disappointment. They're rendering a cockpit 90% of the time and have FOREVER to load the other high-quality textures/renders. Far from an action-packed, rendered on the fly experience. Still great looking — just expected.
I enjoy most genre's... this is just super niche and is essentially void of anything close to what I look for when playing a videogame.
Night and day difference. I've played this game... as well as RDR2. RDR2 was soooo much fun, full of action, great story, etc. I just can't enjoy staring at a screen with garble coming over a radio.
They're going to conveniently announce more stock right when Xbox is looking to start their pre-orders. Sony is smart. I like it!
