I think he was just talking about console games and doesn't think Wipeout is a real racing game (son-of-a...).

Well there is at least one big 1080p game on PS3. It's Wipeout HD, also one of the best games on the platform. Graphics are great and the game runs 60 fps.

Of course PC is ahead of console gameming in technical terms but on the other hand more good looking games are released for consoles than PC.
