Okay, I think using an argument regarding campaigns isn't exactly comparable to the inclusion of bots to play all multiplayer modes offline. Also, I don't think this article is meant to indicate that CoD is perfect, but that's the closest type of game EA can try to emulate in terms of the way CoD allows people to play against bots outside of the campaigns. Activision absolutely has its flaws, but they're doing better for that niche single-player market than EA is when it comes...
Definition of sport: "An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."
By definition, gaming can be considered a sport in specific circumstances, such as mass tournaments, paid competitions, streaming, etc. Physical exertion is applied through the use of finger muscles. Tiny exertions compared to more mainstream sports, but exertions nonetheless.

I think the point was that it's a pretty standard Super Mario game, which is not to say it's a bad or subpar game in any way; just that it doesn't offer much beyond what games like Super Mario 64 and Sunshine offer. That being said, the Mario games are popular for a reason, even if they don't reinvent the genre with each additional game.
The original Battlefront games had pretty extensive single-player experiences. The second one had a campaign (I don't remember if the first one did or not), and both had "instant action" modes where you could play pretty much every game mode against the AI on different difficulties, including space battles. I sunk countless hours into the second game, and even more when a conversion mod came out that added The Old Republic era into it.
Were you perturbed with how significantly EA DICE changed Star Wars: Battlefront with its utter lack of single-player? I'm of the mindset that they should take every game mode that was in the original Battlefront series, plus the new modes they introduced in the reboot's multiplayer, and make them all available for play in single-player against the AI, as well as co-op/versus. They won't do that because it would take too much time for the amount of work, and EA is money-hungry, bu...
The argument was made on a site that focuses on single-player gaming. Not sure where else you want them to make the argument they're trying to make. Also, this "free season pass" was hyped up on the game's forums for multiple things, and additions to the arcade was one of those pieces they hyped up and it simply didn't live up to the hype in the author's mind. It's an opinion piece, not objective news.
As far as judging the DLC on its own merit...
