They make watching cutscenes bearable sometimes...some of the cuts in RE4 would have been awkward without them.
The first game is still fun to play, it's more like rehab from shooters for me.
I wish there was a way to turn off the evil portions of the first game, just to play for fun, I didn't enjoy losing pinatas that I needed for breeding.
I wouldn't trust any reviews out of Playstation Mag, Official Xbox Mag, or Nintendo Power, they're all incredibly biased.
Don't get me wrong I'm sure the game is fantastic, but if you believe this review you're very, very dumb.

It has a great licensed soundtrack, otherwise it's just parodies of current radio programs, that's not a 'soundtrack' in my opinion, at all.
