Of course they're not afraid. They're number one with a very loyal customer base. But so does SONY. They're both gonna do just fine.

@nicaragua - you're right but apple also is being primarily bought buy adults who can afford it. Some people just buy blindly, even with only few improvements. We've been waiting about 6 years for this so you would think the psp2 would sell real well. Sometimes you can't compare certain products to others,even if they happened to both be expensive. They are serving different purposes.
If they haven't learned from the ps3 launch, pricing can trump brand loyalty sometimes. However, the rumored specs appear to justify the price tag, so SONY will have a tough decision to make. Lose more money per unit but get them into more hands OR charge more and have a slower adoption rate. I hope it doesn't go past 299, tops 349. And this is coming from someone who can afford it. Less fortunate people will be hurting at that steep a price. Getting them into kids' hands is very ...

I don't know about current consoles lasting longer. I have a nes, snes, and ps2 in great working condition.

I just started playing it last week and im about halfway thru and for the most part its running thru the forest at night. Scary but repetitive. Story is good.
As long as its not horrible it has potential to satisfy a casual crowd. The title is misleading because I doubt anything will be better than a mouse.

I can't see SONY banning without PSN access because the hacked ps3s don't know they're hacked. PSN might be able to tell. Unless SONY isn't just using a scare tactic, and using a firmware update(which has been said to be useless), I can't see SONY bricking/banning anyone. But... I don't work for them so who knows???
The problem with psp piracy is that it started sooo early in its life and that's why the attach ratio is so low. Ps3 has already established itself and doesn't have to worry about piracy THAT much. Still isn't good news though.

I think sony is watching how we respond to it and then that will help them price it. If everyone starts going crazy over it even before a price comes then sony knows they can raise the price. 399 is steep but justifyable, and a long shot if they wanna compete with 3ds. 299 is what it should be but I see 349 as the final price.
