It's pretty simple, but good. Most of the challenge comes from opportunity-cost decisions and spending Action Points wisely. It's very very loosely based on poker; in fact, the only real aspect it steals from poker is the sets of cards used to create combos: pairs, two pair, three-of-a-kind, full house, etc. So you'll need to learn those, but the game also has a "poker help" button built onto the battle screen, so it shouldn't be too much trouble.
