Man with this acquisition, im actually worried for the future. Sony could buy Ubisoft, then Ms buys EA, then sony buys TakeTwo..so what are we left at? No more third party..just who's got the better Studios. Lol
Does Sony Need to buy more studios though? I mean their own studios right now are nothing to scoff at. Now they're actually having 2-3 more teams within them for different projects. If they continue to make games like TLou2, GOW and other quality games, i think they're gold.

Sony's studios and their teams are above the rest in terms of talent. Maybe only Rockstar can challenge that. Their studios are now split into 2/3 teams for different projects.
If they continue to make games of Ghost, GoW, Tlou2, hzd quality then they have no problem. They're good.
No you're absolutely right. It's their bloody engine. Its so outdated. They keep using the same engine. Take a look at their character models. They look like playdoh. Anyway hopefully now with this acquisition they'll move on to UE5.
Sony don't need to buy any. They can get any of their studios to make one. If guerrilla who made Killzone series can make a semi rpg game like Horizon then im sure others can too.
They just need a good story to tell.
