It never was a wii u exclusive the third game was still unannounced and they had a 3 game deal with Nintendo usually that involves a contract that makes sure people don't change their mind midway so no it's not a wii u exclusive gone multiplat

if people aren't willing to buy Nintendo hardware now for the games why would they buy the games on other platforms
example : Rayman legends deciced to go multiplat when it came out it still sold most on wii u despite the other consoles having an install base of 80+ mil meaning this type of games don't sell on their hardware asking Nintendo to bring their games to those platforms is asking them to die a rather quick dead
