I have this problem too. However, u can simply deactivate the internet, run the game, then reactivate the internet to play the multiplayer. Easy solution.
You can simply fix the lockup by disconnecting from the internet, but you have to send the brickbox back to MS if it breaks. Obviously rrod is worse as it kills your console, and it's funny how the 360 bots are trying to spin this.

I got a 60 gig as well, and I have no problem with the game. I assume that the problem only plagues few bunch of 60 gig as John V pointed out.
and 4D, the ps3 version of gta 4 is superior. I don't have to worry about slamming into a tree that pops out from nowhere.
