I think you missed the point of the article. Whether or not he played or finished the game doesn't make a difference: he's arguing that it's childish and petty to bully BioWare over this. Feel free to criticize the ending; heck, I was incredibly disappointed in it myself, but to disavow an entire company and its staff for bungling up an ending to a franchise they put their blood, sweat and tears into is immature and just makes the gaming community look like a bunch of whiny babies...
The unfortunate thing is that the ones that are copy-protected tend to be games that require a lot of time and commitment to play through, like Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, etc.
