Owned one back in the day, looking back it really was a great console. Back then I loved how most of the games available on it were the arcade games that people wasted there coins on at the mall. Games I owned were:
-Daytona USA
-Virtua Fighter 1
-Virtua Fighter 2
-Virtua Cop
-Fighting Vipers (My favorite fighting game on that console)
-Darious Gaiden III
-Bug
-Sonic 3D
There's no winning with this subject, it doesn't matter how historically accurate or how politically correct you try to be, there will always be a backlash.
Are all of these games available on the App store outside of Japan?

Visual Novels are indeed an under appreciated genre in video games.

Lol! But if your serious on trying some out, there's plenty on PC/STEAM. On the other hand if you'r more of a handheld person, give Dangan Ronpa (VITA) or Ace Attorney (3DS) a try. Sadly there aren't too many on consoles, now that I think about it, the only two I can think of are Hakuoki and Xblaze for PS3.
You should! My advice is to start with Dangan Ronpa on Vita or Ace Attorney if you own a 3DS.
Because none of the big three allow 18+ games on their platform, besides everybody knows that ecchi media outsells hentai media, at least in the west it does.
Just because those people aren't buying tons of games, doesn't mean that the term is meaningless. It just means that those people are casuals, or hardcore gamers that are dedicated to those few franchises.

You do realize none of the games these three companies bring to STEAM are 18+ titles right? Steam won't let them, that's why the only games they can release, are there "All Ages" or 17+ ports (the non-pornographic games). If anything I'd argue that the VN community is already noticing a trend of bringing more "All Ages" title's over, it might not seems that way at first glance, to someone who isn't used to playing these games though.
Yes, we need more localization's, my Vita will devour these games!
