Nope, you aren't over thinking it. It's targeted at 13 year old boys who still look at that and think, "whoa, bad ass". I would be lying if I said I didn't take issue with this franchise or someone enjoying what they like, because it's become so huge that it is affecting the games that I enjoy, many games of late being COD-ized and so forth.
It jumped to that title purely for marketing, out of fear that even the COD faithful would begin to tire of it. From what I saw, it's no different then the last COD.
I didn't care for the demo, so more than likely slim to none.
That's just it, many would not have bought an Xbox One in the first place, and are on the webs throwing gas on every fire they see.

Because they approve negative opinion pieces (not including this article) 24-7.
