I dunno, man. Remember when Microsoft tried digital-only? It was a risky move for which gamers weren't ready just a year ago. In the wake of the WiiU's market failure, Nintendo might not want to take too many risks. Then again, I guess E3 really IS all about surprises.

I like the article, but I don't know if I agree with all of its points. For example, I loved some of the sassy back-and-forth between Microsoft and Sony at last year's E3. It brought a lighthearted, competitive atmosphere to an event where people are usually focused on just making their product look as cool as possible. Which, y'know, they did at the same time.

I think that's a more realistic prospect than a Fallout 4 announcement anytime soon.

You might have a point: interest in the first title SHOULD generate hype for the WiiU version. But there's no real, definitive way to tell. For the record, I hope it does; I'll buy both versions as soon as I can.

As for the article, it's just more Nintendoom--always a big hit in the right circles. The article's syntax is what really gets me. It's just hard to read and pretty vague at times.

... What?

How on Earth is this considered a legitimate article? It's just an attempt (unfortunately, a successful one) to get attention by flaring up fanboy ire. People shouldn't have had to leave comments like they already have; it's common knowledge that personal preference is the strongest dictator of someone's console choice.

You even say at the end, "... either is fine but you’ll probably be best served by purchasing a PS4." You're not proving anythin...

Sorry about that! At least I used it in a positive light! :D

This is a good article, but the question has been answered. A quote from a GameStop article about Hennig's departure: "Sony has said that Hennig's departure will not affect the development of Uncharted on PS4." However, some people choose not to believe it, speculating that Druckmann and his partner have taken over writing responsibilities in Hennig's stead. Sony also refutes rumors that she was forced out.

I found it as equally challenging as it was creepy. Nintendo managed to take the engine of a great game and build another great (and almost completely different) game off it.
Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds are great (almost perfect), but I kinda wish they'd bring back some of the mechanics and darkish vibe of Majora's Mask for a modern Zelda title. Twilight Princess touched on it with the Twilight Realm, but it wasn't as strikingly creepy.

I think I just found someone who didn't actually read the article.

Most of these are a bit of a stretch (especially the one about Little Big Planet), but I'm a sucker for video game theories.

While I agree that unlockables can be a great distraction in any game, I have to ask: does a slight lack (heck, even a complete absence) of unlockables really decrease the longevity of a game like Super Smash Bros. Brawl? When I played through Melee and Brawl with friends and family, I was playing for the competitive vibe and multiplayer frenzy--not to unlock new characters and stages. And even now that I've long since unlocked everything in Melee, I still play it about as much as I play ...

Apparently, Ground Zeroes will be a toe in the water for the full MGSV experience. As I see it, it'll be to gamers' benefit as well as Konami's to gauge satisfaction with the new MGS--after all, this is the first game on the new engine and a completely different MGS than that with which we're familiar. Monetarily, it sucks that GZ and The Phantom Pain are being sold separately, but it lets Konami fix things people don't like about GZ before TPP releases.

You do realize that all organizations have separate budgets for marketing, right? That means that the money Nintendo could spend on new games is pretty much unrelated to the money they're spending to make weekly videos for girls.

Also, whether or not Nintendo makes more bad decisions, that's gonna be one lame-ass catchphrase.

Good article, but I think you're forgetting one important point: games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, et cetera may be smash hits, but even their influence and popularity will wane like all monotonous game series. I had good fun (in short spurts) with some of those "Violent, flashy, linear, and rather unimaginative games" you mentioned, but I always come back to Nintendo. Their game quality is unmatched and consistent, if not always the financial leader of the pack. In my opini...

I see your point--Sonic games have become sort of a running joke in recent years, with many gamers dismissing them as trash on principle. Me? I've gotten my hands on every one I can afford, approaching each with an open mind and distancing myself from nostalgia as much as possible. And, even with decent titles like the DS version of Colors, they still just don't impress. Sometimes, it has nothing to do with gamers' expectations for a game or nostalgia for the series. Sometimes, ga...

Thanks for drawing the line between Metal Gear Solid and Journey, Gone Home and other short indie experiences. Games that are vastly different can't necessarily take the same form as others. For anybody looking for perspective, imagine if Journey lasted MGS3's ~20 hour playtime.

But then nobody would bother reading the story. This isn't a college paper with the thesis statement in the first paragraph; it's an opinion article.

Communication breakdown and rumor have lead to some of the biggest misunderstandings in video game history. Plus, Nintendo doesn't need to miss out on one of the most anticipated next-gen titles.
