It said Xbox was the first to use a hard drive, but didn't PS2 (Fat or old models) need a hard drive to run online? They did and from what I seen you can use it the same way to.

But the funny part is, games like Halo don't fully support music being played in the background.
Pretty much the reason you came up with for PS3, you can choose to play your music but Halo will tell you it isn't a good idea and it may slow down your gameplay or lost of sound.
I already know ODST will lose sound if you try playing your music then turn it off.

Microsoft needs to start doing something, they lost Mass Effect 2 (Most likely ME3) and now PS3 has Value (Which I don't care for) and Portal 2 is now on PS3.

Most PS3 users had at least a 500GB hard drive in their PS3 and use about 50% of it.
I used over that and that isn't counting the games from PSN I have now and some of the games I choose not to install (Like MGS4). I'm getting a 1TB soon for my PS3.

Microsoft says it is best to install your games to the hard drive to kill loading times, so I wouldn't be talking about that if I was you.
Because the only developers that seem to get it right are the ones working with Sony, heck even MGS4 looks awesome for a compress game.
