it's like watching on a UHD-TV then on an old classic box tv and say it suck because the experience is not the same. try to consider the time and maybe relive the moment. back then Doom3 was to its fans the next best thing in every way.
it seems it really requires a special type of people who can mentally and emotionally switch between classic and modern day gaming.
Gears of Doom, Doom of War, Call of Doom, Doom of Duty and even some bits of Terminator.. but no actual DOOM.

for me, the truth about Grandia is this;
the gameplay is fun, the music is fantastic (main theme is one of my top) and the story is among the most intriguing.. up until you cross that wall.
the game succeeded in hyping your wildest imaginations eagerly wondering what lies on the other side but once you're there it loses its momentum quite fast and the story takes a back seat.
and that final Boss, damn is among the most disappointing.
