They are actually HIRING staff at Dark Age of Camelot.
The high level content is pretty decent so far. You have UNITY missions, Nemesis missions, and a couple of solid high end 5 man dungeons.
As a complete ballpark guess, just from forum activity and activity in game, I'd put it at about 200-300k. The forum community is VERY active.
For the most part, the community is very friendly and helpful. Obviously, there are the "l2play" idiots but that's unavoidable nowadays.
The superhero genre is a bit friendlier than the WoW-style community.
You better hope your wife or SO doesn't read this.

I think subscripion fees will fall away, and the game developers themselves will start selling more of these virutal items directly as well.
There is finally a full retcon/respec system, but right now it is still crazy expensive.
