Multiple reason i would say. It was Decent game, even with its issues on launch.
- The confusion of the title, as it is a semi-reboot/sequel, but with the same title as the first game.
- Because the original was so unpopular it had a hard time finding its audience through it.
- Because it is a soulslike, it has a hard time finding an audience.
- The noise on how the performance was on launch will always turn people away.

Fair enough not liking how the newer Doom games play, don't discredit you there. Everyone has their own preference in gaming. But calling Doom 3 a Classic Doom game is just completely wrong. I even remember that many fans were not the biggest fans of the Doom 3, as it left a lot of what made the original games behind for claustrophobic horror shooter. It wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't what made the Doom games Doom.
