I feel It is a purposeful juxtaposition. Tommy's camp has provided enough comfort where there is some semblance of normal life. Gossip, teen drama, relationships, identity politics. It makes the violence and seeing humans at their most primal that much more jarring imo.
Im enjoying so far a couple hours in. Some of the dialougue is a little cringey, but honestly in a realistic way. Like yes this is what a real 19yr old girl would say in modern america. Do i always agree with the views of a 19yr old girl? No, but that is ok. That's the character.
