I would take this with a grain of salt, Hideo and his team is known to state such things at first, until the game progresses further and things eventually downgrade.. especially when design choices are altered and more things are added, etc.
One can't forget the initial MGS3 realtime gameplay and MGS4 original look which was suppose to be running in realtime (wasn't even running on a PS3)...and eventually changed.

Have NO idea, beat the game 7 times for story a lone LOVED IT, tho the MP was pretty fun..haven't touched it in a awhile.
No other game touches it in terms of gun play mechanics/bullet reactions...so damn satisfying.

If it wasn't for RE4, Gears wouldn't be the game that it is...cliffy B admitted that. Same goes with the cover system of killswitch.
RE5 directors thought they would do the same to show their appreciation.
RE6 on the other hand excels that, with much more variety and different mechanics/gameplay to that of gears of war.
