When I first came to N4G, I was slapped in the face with 'Sony is doomed' articles, 'No Gaaaamezzz'... but look where Sony and MS are now.
MS started very well in the consolebusiness with the XBox (and some good ip's). What they have done since: fast-dropping Xbox-support, forcing poor-quality Xbox360 just to be the first, HD-DVD but never fully standing behind it, giving money to have timed-exclusives, buying exclusives, asking money for a should-be free online s...
In the end, it's all about making profits. If the decisionmakers at microsoft (the ones with the money) decide the investments don't add up to the future profits, it's over and out.
At least MS can do it without being hurt to much. For Sony it would be much worse having to stop with PS3 because they have tv and bluray depending on it.

well, it's because significant more people are into gaming now then there were 10 years ago.
Thx to easy accessible devices like Wii and iPhone, a lot of people started gaming.
A 10 year kid that's playing the Wii today, might be the next hardcore gamer bying a fps.

most of the people out there don't even know about 'Android'. Maybe Windows would ring a bell because they recognise it from their PC.
Then we are at a restaurant and they see my wife taking out her iPhone and our kid (2,5years young) goes straight to Talking Carl or starts browsing photos's and video's. Then she shows them Angry Bird or Bejeweled...
