Also worth noting are the universal sales goals that discount the nature of specific regions. If you work in an area with a lot of tourism, particularly for people from outside the country, then reserves are an impossible sell. Strip stores and Mall stores also have the same goals, despite different types of consumer behavior.
Fun fact, they also tell employees to sell preorders on people quite frequently.
They don't honestly care who buys the copy, and since they'll rarely run completely out of stock, it's rare that they run into a problem with it. But when they do, they can just apologize and pretend it was a freak event.
Gamestop shouldn't be a sales job. It's a minimum wage retail job.
Sales jobs should have incentive for doing well. Specialty retailers are especially bad, and Gamestop is far beyond the normal level of bad-ness.
