Competition is great, but for it to work the companies all have to release competitive products. Previously the Xbox One wasn't competitive. Things have changed a bit now after their backtracking, but it seems significant damage to their brand has remained.

That said, if the console market is big enough to sustain 2-3 players then either Microsoft will continue on, or someone else will step in. I wouldn't be surprised to see Samsung have a go if they saw an opening. I...

Xbone 180?

@WeAreLegion Joystick uses the word "console" to describe the 3DS, it's even in their headline. Most other sites reporting on the May sales numbers are doing the same too.

It's missing "excluding handhelds" too because it seems in the official NPD numbers the 3DS outsold the 360.

The Daily Mail article linked from that side talks of achievements. Achievements for watching TV? Seriously?

There's also the memory interface which is a big deal, and the two consoles are quite different in that regard.

The whole Kotaku interview thing was just one of many, many reasons people didn't trust SK and Dyack. The whole anonymous sources argument is just a distraction. Dyack has said many things very loudly and publicly over the years and his own words are as much of a condemnation as anything.

I wouldn't say that he shouldn't get second chance, but I'm sure not going to fund it, and I don't blame anyone else who doesn't trust him with their hard earned cash...

Actually that is exactly what I thought when I saw that the new SimCity was going to have always online DRM. There are always problems. The only difference this time is that it failed worse than usual, and unlike Ubisoft's titles, it was a game people actually wanted to play.

They did release a console version of it, the C64 GS, that only played cartridge games. It was only available for a short time in the PAL regions and sold poorly. It's certainly true that the vast majority of people had the computer.

I had a C64 GS myself at one point that I picked up second hand. Pulled the graphics chip out of it to fix another broken C64 computer. I kind of wish I'd kept it intact now as the GS is far more rare.

Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, Okami, Persona 3 & 4. I'd also like to see Konami redo Silent Hill 2 & 3 given the problems with the current HD collection.

Unfortunately I can understand why none of these are likely to happen.

I don't believe it's possible for a reviewer to be objective in any useful sense. We all have our biases whether we want to admit them or not. Trying to factor them out just leads to bland overly positive reviews that just aren't worth the time to read.

The best reviewers in my opinion are those who are fully aware of their biases and if applicable communicate how these distort their opinion of the game. I don't care if their outlook ends up being completely d...

For me it depends on the game. If the gameplay seems fun I might play normal or even hard. If it's something competitive like fighting games I'll usually play on hard to get better at it. If on the other hand if the gameplay is dull and I'm only playing for the story then I might choose easy.

Why do you want a Nvidia 9800 GTX in your console? Anything modern from either ATI or Nvidia could achieve the same level of graphical quality, but would cost less, use less power and run cooler.

The 360's Xenon and PS3's Cell don't really compare directly to a traditional POWER CPU, although it's true that the POWER 6 is probably the closest to them based on feature set. That said both Cell and Xenon are limited to in-order code execution for start which means the performance really isn't even going to be comparable. The console CPUs are designed to be cheap to make.

Regarding the Wii U, I have no idea what they're going to do although I have ...

The premise of the article is so flawed that really adds nothing of value to the debate.

Simply put, Ubisoft's PC business is in a downward spiral and shows no sign of coming out of it. It can't be denied that piracy played it's part in setting Ubisoft down this path, but they seem to have gone out of their way to make matters worse. This was the obvious result of their strategy right from the start. The odd part is that they seemed to have expected a different o...

Yes, Murumasa was noticeably absent from that list. Best game on the system in my opinion. I like the look of Xenoblade myself as well as The Last Story and will definitely buy them if they're localized, but I'm not willing to count games that I can't yet buy or play as evidence for the Wii having the best exclusives. Frankly, I find it a bit of a stretch.

Overall the Wii's lineup, exclusive or otherwise, has been a significant disappointment to me. I've a...

@LordStig
Yeah, that's what I was going for. ;)

Seriously though, you'd probably have more luck talking to National's Steven Joyce or Labour's Clare Curran since they represent the Communucations and IT portfolio of the major parties. Surprisingly the Green Party often tends to have a sensible view on Internet-related policies too although it's debatable what they could do.

I'm from NZ. The internet plans we have to choose from here are certainly rubbish, but that said, most gamers I know have higher caps than what the article describes.

Some of the most popular local ISPs advertise 10GB is being enough for most people, but that's not really true for anyone wanting to actually use the PSN, Xbox Live, Steam, etc.

I'm kind of hopeful that this PSN welcome back program might get people here to complain to their ISPs abo...
