It's because people have become more interested in, hardware sale's/software sale's/review score's/comparison's with "rival console"/comparison's with "rival manufacturer" than the actual game's.
Everyone like's to play the analyst now, and from a journalist point of view, negative news is easier and get's you more attention than positive news.

Please guy's if you enjoy FPS and online shooting go and give this game a rent, play around with the MoDs, frag a few noobs with the flack cannon, cut a guy in half with a vehicle and i promise you run out and buy this and love it!
I'm disgusted to see Army of Two out selling this. It show's me that advertising is having to much impact on gamers.
I'm sure the 360 will be number 1 for the next few months in the hardware sale's, but with prologue releasing in a few weeks maybe not by a lot.

Totally agree on the advertising/marketting front, MS really beat Sony on that department.
I guess it's personal preference, i prefer FPS over 3rd person so Resistance excites me more, but hell, if Gears turn's out great i'll be playing that to.
I doubt Insomniac will be worried by Gear's, for one they arent on the same system's. Also their game's tend to sell steadily over time rather and selling a million in the first week.
Resistance 2's biggest rival is obviously Killzone 2, with them being both exclusive, Yet even when Ted Price was asked if KZ worried him he chuckled said no and he's happy for the competition.
